Hello everybody!

I'm very pleased to announce that, thanks to some brilliant negotiating by [personal profile] gillo and [personal profile] hab318princess, we have a date for our 2018 meeting.

WriterConUK 2018 will take place on 7th-9th September at the Ramada in Coventry.

Look out for the sign-up post, which will appear soon.

And, as usual, we'll be asking for people to run panels/workshops, so please get thinking!

I have an apology to make - I realise, looking back over notes from the last committee meeting, in June, that as I was the person most able to make a post, I was meant to do this then.

Re Committee Membership;

[personal profile] daiseechain has decided to step down from her post as Secretary at the AGM in August, This means that she needs to be replaced this year.

[personal profile] gillo & I would be very happy to also step down, as we will have served for longer than previous committee members, should anyone want to take over as either Chairperson or Treasurer We are, otherwise, giving a full year's notice that we will step down at the AGM in 2014.

Sign up post for WriterConUK 2012

Dates:

Friday May 25th to Sunday May 27th 2012

Venue:

Ramada Hotel, The Butts, Coventry City Centre.

Membership Cost:

£35.
This is £5.00 more than the cost for the past couple of years. This will reduce the number of attendees required for viability by 5 people. Otherwise, if the enforced change of date lowers the numbers attending by even 2 or 3, it puts the event in doubt. Should there be more people than usual we will use any spare money to add extras to the goodie bags, or buy drinks for Saturday dinner, or similar.

Programme:

Quiz/Icebreaker, Goodie Bags and Introductions on Friday evening.

A full day of talks and workshops by fanfic writers, fan vidders, and fan artists, on Saturday, followed by socialising, and supper.

More socialising, drawing of the raffle, and AGM on Sunday morning.

Intended Audience:

Anyone currently involved with, or wishing to become involved with, the creative side of any fandom as a writer, vidder, artist, beta or reader/reviewer. All levels of experience welcome.

Accommodation:

Members will be responsible for booking their own accommodation.

Details of accommodation at the venue are:

Group rate of £65 per night for single occupancy, including breakfast, or, £75 per night per room, including breakfast, for two sharing a twin room.

Bookings should be made direct to Ramada Coventry.

You can book by phone. The number is '02476 238 110', ask for Reservations. You will need to quote Writercon UK Event 2012 to ensure the group rate.

Alternatively, you can also book via email to reservations@ramadacoventry.co.uk – again, quote Writercon UK Event 2012 to get the group rate.

Car Parking:

Car parking is usually £4.50 per night, in the last few years we have managed to negotiate a slightly lower cost, and hope to do so again this year. Details will be provided as soon as we have them.

Please note:

Membership numbers are limited to a maximum of 40. Membership will be on a first- come first-served basis.

How to Register:

Please comment on this post.

If you don't have a Livejournal/Dreamwidth account, the comment will obviously be anonymous, so clear details of who you are, are particularly important. *g*

Please provide the following information:

1. The name you would like to have listed on your badge and the attendees list
2. How you intend to pay (see below)
3. Your fandoms (for quiz/icebreaker and workshop planning purposes)
4. Your primary fandom character (or pairing, if applicable) (to inform the magical goodie bag creator) If you can also point to a source of pictures and information on less common fandoms, that would be wonderful too.
5. Any dietary preferences.

You may copy and paste this template, if it helps:

Payment

You may register now, by commenting to this post, without paying just yet – last call for payments will be a month before the event – but we are likely to start poking you before that if you haven’t paid up!

You may pay by cheque if you have attended in the past, or are known to the committee – this is simply because, as the treasurer, I will have to give you my off-line details so that you know where to post it.

Paying by PayPal - Paying via PayPal does not require that you have a PayPal account yourself. Click on the button at the end of this post and follow the links to pay by credit or debit card.

Unless you make your on-line name obvious from your Paypal payment details please be sure to use the private message function to contact [personal profile] curiouswombat and let me know your real name, so that I can match the Paypal payment with your online identity. This is important, otherwise I will end up with a number of payments with no matching attendee, and a number of attendees without matching payments…

So for those of you intending to attend the Mini-Meet next weekend, Saturday 10th December, at the British Museum in London, you may recall there was discussion about dinner and possible drinks afterwards.

A table(s) has been booked at Wagamama Bloomsbury for 4pm. We will be walking there from the British Museum.

I didn't notice until after booking that this particular Wagamama does not have wheelchair access, so I apologise if this is an issue for anyone. If we are in danger of excluding anyone from this outing please let us know and I will look for somewhere else for dinner.

We're aware that 4pm is a slightly odd time for either lunch or dinner, however we're trying to allow enough time for our meander around the museum but not so much that we have to wait too long to move on from there. At any rate, by the time we all get ourselves seated and settle into the business of actually getting around to ordering I expect it will be 4.30 before any orders are taken and some time till food is actually served brings us closer to a more reasonable dinner hour.

Then brutti_ma_buoni has threatened to take those still exhibiting willpower and energy, drinking in the shadier part of London otherwise known as anywhere the lot of us are willing to drink. Currently she has in mind Freud, and would like to hear what you all think of it as an option.

We are still getting requests to join the outing and this is fine but it would be helpful if anyone intending to join the dinner can confirm by commenting on this post by Wednesday 7th Dec, 6pm so we can make any necessary changes with the restaurant.

IMPORTANT BIT IS IMPORTANT!: The British Museum is free, but dinner and drinks are to be paid for individually at the restaurant and bar. No exceptions. ("A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend." Willow)

We're looking forward to seeing you all again!

We have dates! And now so do you!

Set aside the weekend of May 25th to 27th, 2012 in your calendars and get set for revelry, and maybe some learning if we can squeeze it in between the cocktails and the cocktails.

The usual hotel (Coventry Ramada) is the venue and we're currently negotiating details of rates with them. We'll let you know as soon as we have the numbers.

In the meantime, why not spread the word!

Writercon UK Event - The Event of the Year!*

In the afterglow of the heady rush that is The Event, I rashly mooted the idea of holding a mini-meet, and brutti_ma_buoni rashly murmured that she might be able to help out.

And guess what? It's not just some nice idea! It's actually happening!

We're not holding votes on this one. There is one date and one time (but probably not just one ring) and we'd love to see you there if you can make it. If not brutti_ma_buoni and I will eat all the food and drink all the drink ourselves and wend our way through the afternoon shaking our heads at the fun you all missed.

When?
December 10th, 2011.

More specifically when?
1.30pm (13:30)

Where?
The British Museum

Why?
Because Giles was rumoured to be a curator at The British Museum (or a British museum at least) and that's a tenuous enough connection for us!

What?
An afternoon with brutti_ma_buoni pointing at bits that might vaguely have some random connection to BTVS and saying "See that? That's well good, that is." Only probably more better. And then heading to a cafe or restaurant (the name of which is going to be determined by your hosts at some point between now and then).

How much?
The British Museum is free! How lovely is that? Food and drinks, sadly, will cost and we leave how much you can afford to eat and drink up to you.

How?
Sign up in the comments so that we can gauge interest and book a restaurant if it seems there'll be need to, and then turn up!

But wait... You haven't told us exactly where to meet in the museum!
We're going to decide that soon and will let you know in an update post.

We hope you can join us there. We know the mini-meets used to be a much enjoyed function of Writercon UK and we hope this small experiment might lead to further days out - brutti_ma_buoni already has a list of suggested venues at the ready and some of them are really fascinating...
